Church of Dominus Flevit, which is called The Lord Wept, is a Franciscan church built during the thirties of last century by the architect Antonio Barluzzi on the site of the remains of a fifth century building.

In recent times the vestiges of a necropolis have been found nearby with funeral inscriptions in Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. The window over the altar offers an incomparable panorama of Jerusalem.

The name of the church is taken from the Gospel account of Christ weeping before the city unaware of its fate. "... And they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knowest not the time of thy visitation" (Luke, XIX 44).

The Church of St. Lazarus, built over a grotto where visitors may see a chamber commonly known as the "Tomb of Lazarus", is a modern construction from the early fifties of our century.
